An astringent medicine that flushes the eyes and tear ducts. After an initial sting, it soothes and refreshes the eyes, cleaning them, reducing inflammation and reducing dryness.

This is ideal therapy after long screen use and eye strain, or live somewhere with a lot of dust and pollution.

How Does This Eye Wash Improve Wellness?

Triphala is an astringent and sialogogue, which means it helps break up mucus while encouraging the body’s natural secretions. This gentle flushing action is one of the reasons Triphala has traditionally been used to support clean, refreshed, healthy eyes.

Triphala is made from a harmonious blend of three powerful fruits - Amalaki, Haritaki, and Bibhitaki and offers a simple, natural way to care for the delicate tissues around the eyes, helping wash away impurities, soothe irritation, and support overall eye health.

The cooling, cleansing qualities can help soothe tired, dry-feeling eyes, calm redness, and leave your eyes feeling brighter and more refreshed.

From an Ayurvedic perspective, Triphala’s cooling and balancing qualities make it particularly supportive for Pitta and Vata. It gently nourishes the delicate tissues of the eyes while supporting their natural resilience.

Used as part of a regular self-care ritual, Triphala eye wash can be a beautiful way to give tired eyes a little extra love - helping ease everyday eye strain and minor irritation while creating a quiet moment of cooling, soothing care.

The first thing you may notice is a gentle stinging sensation as the astringent qualities of the herbs begin to break down the mucus and buildup around the eyes. Once the flushing settles, your eyes can feel cool, calm, soothed, and refreshed.

Guidelines

To refresh and soothe your eyes, use freshly prepared Triphala eye wash once or twice a day, ideally in the morning and evening.

  1. Use around 2–3 teaspoons of the cooled, well-filtered Triphala infusion for each eye.

  2. Gently rinse the eye by pouring the eyewash over the open eye, or use a sterile dropper.

  3. Blink a few times and allow the liquid to naturally wash over the eye.

  4. Try not to touch your eyes with your hands during the process, and always keep everything as clean as possible.

A few tips

Always prepare your eyewash fresh and discard any leftover infusion after use.

The infusion should be lukewarm or at room temperature. Avoid using it if it is hot or very cold.

If you experience any irritation, burning, redness, pain, or discomfort, stop using the eyewash and speak with your healthcare provider.
